Appreciating the past increases our ability to manage our present. • We cannot change past events, only the effects they have on us. • The problem is not the problem. Coping is the problem. •
Jean McLendon, Director of Training Programs
LCSW, LMFT, AAMFT Approved Supervisor
Jean McLendon, LCSW, LMFT and AAMFT approved supervisor maintains an active multi-service private practice in Chapel Hill, N.C. Mentored nearly 20 years by the late Virginia Satir, renowned educator-author and family systems therapist, Jean is known as one of the world’s foremost practitioners of Satir's methods. When Satir became ill, she requested Jean direct her International Colorado Summer Module I Process Community Institute. Of Jean’s work, Satir once wrote: "Jean has that rare capacity to be able to sit in the airport control tower and, at the same time, be aware of all the planes in her vision and be able to help them find out about themselves and their relationship to each other

Jean has 40 years of professional experience in helping people improve their communication and their relationships. She travels widely applying the Satir Growth Model to a variety of contexts, situations, countries and cultures.

She is the immediate past President of The Virginia Satir Global Network, formerly Avanta, founding board member of The Avanta Network and founding Director of the Satir Institute of The Southeast. Jean is a Satir Global ‘Living Treasure’ and a North Carolina AAMFT ‘Champion of the Family’. She is featured in the professional video series “Family Therapy with the Experts”. In her consulting practice, Jean works with leaders and teams in young, high-tech, fast-growing businesses; large well-established insurance and finance companies; hospitals; state and federal governmental agencies; manufacturing companies; and educational institutions. She is regularly engaged by businesses to consult on matters of team development, succession planning, conflict resolution, transition and change management, and leadership development. In her psychotherapy practice, she works with individual, couples and families and supervises other therapists.

Jean believes that when self or system esteem is increased, so are the health, relationships and performance of individuals, families and organizations.
