 Bill Davis,LCSW, CSAC

Personal Development Workshop

Bill Davis first trained in the Satir system in a three-week intensive in Summer 1991. Since September, 1991, he has been actively involved with the Chapel Hill program, first as a participant, then as staff. Today, his clear thinking and analytical approach add structure to the program. Bill is a faculty member of the Sair Institute of the Southeast, Inc. He is a Behavioral Medicine Instructor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He also provides clinical supervision to Navy Addictions Rehabilitation Department counselors. Bill has a private psychotherapy practice in Chapel Hill, where he specializes in treating adolescents and adults for chemical dependence, co-dependence, and family of origin issues.

Hugh Gratz, LCSW  
Trenton,  New Jersey
Personal Development Workshop

Hugh Gratz is a licensed clinical social worker in New Jersey with 30 years as a psychotherapist and workshop leader. He is certified as a Field Traumatologist through the International Traumatology Institute of the University of South Florida. He has Disaster Mental Health experience in Central America since 1988, as well as in NYC during the 9/11 response. He is a faculty member of Common Ground, Inc, a diversity training organization and he serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the NJ Human Relations Council. Hugh had extensive training with Virginia Satir and is on the faculty of Avanta the Virginia Satir Network. Hugh's teaching style is safe, intense and fun. Virginia Satir said, "Working with Hugh is pure joy! He integrates, stimulates and teaches, all at the same time."

Sheri Hanshaw, MA, LCSW

A singer-songwriter from a young age, Sheri attended the "Yearlong", Performance Development Program for three years and now begins her ninth year on staff. Her live music is an important element in the Satir learning community. She is in practice in West Virginia at The Center for Alternative Medicine. With over 25 years experience, Sheri focuses on self-empowerment through self-esteem, spirituality, relationships, life-balance and self-care.

Denise Kilpatrick

Denise is an entrepreneur and consultant with a MS degree and 20 years experience in the field of organizational development and human resources. A large focus of her successful practice involves working with managers and executives in start up and growth companies to develop individual, team or organizational performance or, to create or improve the human resource systems for the organization. She uses Satir models throughout her work in coaching, training, organizational development and in establishing human resource selection and reward systems.

Eileen Strider
Kansas City, Missouri
Congruent Leadership Development Workshop
Eileen consults with people in IT organizations and projects to help them succeed, especially when they are feeling frustrated and stuck. She works with IT and business professionals to determine what is happening and recommend actions to improve their chances of success. Her consulting engagements range from small in-house projects to large ERP efforts and from a single work group to entire IT organizations. During her thirty-years of technical, management and consulting experience in large IT organizations, she developed a practical, no-nonsense approach which she brings to her client's work. Using her experience as CIO of a large insurance corporation, she is highly skilled in communicating to business executives what they must do to support their IT projects and organizations.

Eileen is a partner with Wayne Strider in Strider & Cline, Inc. Their highly successful Leaders' Forum is held annually in Crested Butte, CO. She was also an instructor for the Weinberg and Weinberg Problem Solving Leadership Workshop and co-facilitator of Jerry Weinberg's Systems Effectiveness Managers Group.

Wayne Strider
Kansas City, Missouri
Congruent Leadership Development Workshop

Wayne advises his clients nationwide on how to magnify their capability to build and deliver IT services to their customers. He brings a unique blend of IT technical experience and expertise in human communication and change. He has coached and taught hundreds of IT people including executives, managers, project managers, and software professionals how to solve technical and business problems in more human ways.

Wayne and his partner, Eileen Strider, co-founded Strider & Cline, Inc. Together they have developed efficient and effective processes for conducting project reviews, packaged-software vendor reviews, inspections, project retrospectives, and IT organizational assessments. Their highly successful Leaders' Forum is held annually in Crested Butte, CO.

Wayne has presented at major IT conferences, and currently writes articles for a newsletter, Successful Project Management, published by Management Concepts, Inc. Wayne has twice apprenticed at the Personal Development Workshop, a Satir System workshop conducted by Jean McLendon and Hugh Gratz. He is the author of Powerful Project Leadership, an interactive approach and exercise in developing powerful leadership skills. Wayne loves dry-fly fishing for trout. He is a wonderful cook. He has a growing Santa Claus collection.

Stan has worked as chaplain and administrator in large systems in addition to psychotherapist and consultant in his 16 years in the human services field. A systems view of self, couples, families, teams, and organizations have been a consistent aspect of his work. He was a participant in the "Year Long" Satir Performance Development Program in 2001.

Steven Channing is an historian and documentary filmmaker in Durham, North Carolina. He has experienced, as participant the Personal Development Workshop and "Year-Long" Performance Development Program, He deepened his appreciation for the wisdom of Virginia Satir and the talented staff that have continued to evolve her work, by serving as an assistant at the 2002 Personal Development Workshop.

Karen Cowles
Chagrin Falls, OH
Karen has been a Massage Therapist since 1988. She is licensed by the Ohio State Medical Board and is a Certified Neuromuscular Therapist. She was first exposed to the gifts of Virginia Satir after her husband attended some of the workshops. She participated in the Personal Development Workshop in 2000 and is delighted to have the opportunity to be part of the upcoming workshop. She has been an instructor at the National Institute of Massotherapy in Ohio for the past five years and maintains a small private practice.

An engineer for over 30 years, Ken now manages a design group at Rockwell Automation. In the quest to balance the world of things with the world of being, Ken has also "played" Tai Chi since the 70's and has seriously engaged Virginia's teachings through workshops, seminars and personal application.

Barbara Burns 
Durham, NC

A longtime Satir affectionado, Barbara Burns is a clinician turned academic to develop and test innovative clinical interventions. She is a Professor at Duke University with a strong interest in utilizing Satir concepts with mental health organizations and practitioners to adopt evidence-based treatments for children and families.
